WhatsApp to introduce a second OTP to log into account on new device
The new double verification code is designed to protect users from unintentionally compromising their accounts by sharing a WhatsApp OTP.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will introduce a feature that will provide an additional layer of security before a user is allowed to log in to a WhatsApp account. The feature will most likely be added to the instant messaging app's beta versions for iOS and Android in the near future.
WhatsApp may request a secondary verification code soon after testing a feature that allows users to undo message deletion. This means that if you try to log in to WhatsApp on a new phone, you'll need a second verification code on top of the one you received via SMS.
"On another phone, the number +********** is already in use for WhatsApp." You must confirm another verification code to ensure that your account is under your control. To increase security, you must wait for the timer to finish before sending the code. "When you get the code, enter it here," says a screenshot obtained by WABetaInfo.
According to reports, this feature is being introduced to prevent users' WhatsApp accounts from being hijacked or hacked in the past. Scams like this one typically occur when users share the OTP that WhatsApp provided them with a bad actor who can then use it to take control of their WhatsApp account.
This new security feature may be intended to prevent users who unintentionally reveal their 6-digit OTP. After a period of time has passed since the functionality was published, a second 6-digit code will be delivered to the user's phone number. The OTP message will inform the user that someone is attempting to enter into their account, which should lead to users not sharing the second 6-digit code.
